Lesley-Ann Drake/Path to Shine

Path To Shine provides free after-school mentoring and tutoring for under-served, elementary school children once a week. Working with small groups of children, and no more than 2 children per adult volunteer, Path To Shine programs build trusting relationships between adult volunteers and the children. Since beginning in 2010, Path To Shine has grown to 13 programs around the state of Georgia serving 173 children and engaging more than 140 volunteers. Some of our programs are in their 5th or 6th year! The program is a commitment for all concerned but it is a commitment well worth making.

Dr. Rob Anderson/Fulton County Schools

Dr. Rob Anderson serves as Deputy Superintendent of Academics for the Fulton County School system.  As the fourth largest school system in Georgia, Fulton has more than 10,500 full-time employees, including more than 7,500 teachers and other certified personnel, who work in 101 schools and administrative and support buildings.

Denise Townsend/United Way of Greater Atlanta

United Way of Greater Atlanta works to tackle complex issues and drive sustainable positive change. It brings together donors, volunteers, businesses, nonprofits and others to work as a team and make things happen where it is needed most. United Way is the platform that enables individuals, groups and companies to make a difference – individually and collectively – in whatever way they wish to contribute their time, talent and treasure.

Communities can thrive today and reach their greatest potential only if our children are thriving. That’s why United Way’s focus is on creating a community where “all the children are well.” By ensuring that every child in their community has the opportunity to reach his or her potential, they are building a strong future for Greater Atlanta.
